Dear Riah,

Mariah, I know that you like to stay planned ahead and, you like to know what to accomplish within a 5 month plan. I understand that you like to set goals for yourself and will strive until you reach each one of those goals. The goals you will achieve this semester will be to make varsity soccer, play your hardest to earn a scholarship from Meredith College, and to get good grades in all classes.

You will make varsity soccer this year! You should work your hardest and push harder every time you step foot for conditioning. The week of tryouts do not let yourself feel tired or weak, your knee will push through it with you. If you keep your head in the game and stay focused on your goal it will work in your favor. You have to want it before you can have it. If you do not push hard, then how are you going to prove to coach Tucei and Coach K, that you are a strong soccer player and that you deserve to be on the team. Everyone will be fighting for that spot but, only you can show yourself to the coaches and show them how well of a team player you are. Accomplish your goal this next semester by making the girls’ varsity soccer team for Kempsville High School.

Meredith College wants you on their team. Keep that thought in your mind and you will make them want you. They have already sent you an email looking for a schedule of your high school. Make Meredith want to come up from North Carolina to watch you play. You want this Scholarship; now all you have to do is make them want to give it to you. Mariah you are a great soccer player so, show Meredith how good you really are. When you make the soccer team that is when you need to think that every time you step on the field for practice or a game, a college scout could be in the stands waiting to see you play and, showing them what you have to offer. Your mind needs to stay focused on the game, do not get angry and do not have a bad game. Always remember he or she could be sitting somewhere watching me so give it 100 percent every day.

Grades are the most important part in your life. In order to accomplish the first two goals you must first have good grades. The way to do this is not to let drama, boyfriends, friendships, and even soccer get in the way of school work. If you are having trouble in a certain subject ask your teacher for help, ask if you can stay after school for extra help, and ask what else can I do to pull up my grade. Keep up with homework and projects, and do not let extra circular activities stop you from getting them done. In order for you to make the high school team or get the scholarship from Meredith College you need a certain grade point average to meet those goals. Therefore, keep your grades up, stay focused on your classes and keep up with homework and projects.

Mariah these goals are important because, what you do this year in high school will determine what college you go to and also determine your life. You do not want to mess up this year by doing unintelligent things. Maybe you do not make the varsity team and Meredith does not come to a high school game. You are still on a club team and you do play tournaments with this team, Meredith College did want to know when you had tournaments coming up and when they could come see you play. Therefore if you do not make the team you still have a chance of going to Meredith on a scholarship. The next five months you will accomplish making the varsity team at your high school, Meredith College will come watch you play and offer you a scholarship, and you will get excellent grades this semester in all of your classes. Take my advise do not slack off and your goals will be met and go the way you hope for them to go.

Sincerely,

Mariah Sumpter
